I can’t clear my mind …

Do you find it sometimes difficult to really clear your mind at the end of the working day, at the weekend, on vacation? If so, then you’re in good company.

The pressure on individual employees – whether leaders or employees – is constantly increasing. Distinguishing between professional and private life is becoming a major challenge. It is still possible to clear your mind by becoming aware of your different roles, however.

The right way of clearing your mind correctly through role awareness

Let me use an analogy: When you go to work, you figuratively walk onto a playing field that bears your company’s name. This is where a game is played whose essential content consists of producing your products or providing your services. In addition, the game is also played according to certain rules. Parts of it are governed by the employment contract, others exist in the corporate culture, in guidelines or procedures to which you must adhere.

Now, when you go to work in the morning, you are entering this playing field, so to speak, and you slip into the role that you have to play on this playing field.

You can also compare yourself with an actor or actress. They go to see the make-up artist, put on clothing for the show, and literally slip into the role in order to play it authentically, with full commitment and convincingly on stage.

What is important is to step out of the role again after the game. Just like the actors, who then go back to have their make-up removed, hang up the clothes and, also internally, step out of the role again.

Leaving your role

The more you realize that it is a role that you are playing, the sooner you will be able to consciously leave it if you don't play on the field, for example, at the end of the day, at the weekend, on vacation.

It is also helpful if you are looking for a role with which you are able identify really easily, which you can easily slip into and out again. It takes a lot of energy if you have to make contortions every day to be able to play your role really effectively.

Establishing balance

Always remember: as a person, you slip into a role when you play in your work on the playing field. And consciously step out of this role again and again to create balance, to recharge your batteries. So you can get back into your role the next Monday morning with all the more energy and commitment. I hope that you will increase your personal efficiency with this impulse and get off to a good start.
