Make soft factors more tangible with the Scaling Board App

By introducing a digital coaching instrument for visualizing scaling questions, it now becomes easier for coaches and leaders to make soft factors more tangible and concrete in their sessions.

Scaling questions enable coaches and leaders to set additional criteria to so-called “soft” factors such as confidence, motivation, determination, conviction, etc., or for defining the current standpoint in relation to a specific goal. This allows coming straight to the point and getting to the heart of things much easier. I personally love working with scaling questions and use them very often, in my own work as a coach as well as when teaching leaders in how to use coaching methods for their work.

Two examples: “On a scale from 1 to 10, when 10 stands for you having achieved your goal and 1 for the moment you decided to do something about it – where do you stand right now?” or “On a scale from 1 to 10, how confident are you that you can achieve your goal when 10 stands for maximum confidence and 1 for the opposite?” In both examples, just as in working with scaling questions in general, it’s more important to focus on the differences and the progress that can be seen on the scale, rather than on the absolute values.

While looking for an elegant solution for visualizing scaling questions, I got inspired by the currently available options. They range from the classic flip chart and whiteboard on the one end to imprinted notepads and magnetic boards on the other. I was looking for a way to always have my scaling instrument at hand, given that I like to meet my clients outside the classic business setting at times and go for a walk or meet them at hotels or airports. In addition, I was looking for a way of documenting the results in an uncomplicated way without having to take pictures or save them in a physical file. This is how the idea of a Scaling Board App for tablets was born and realized with the support of the German marketing agency werdewelt. Thanks to this simple yet effective tool, every coach or leader can now have their scales with them at anytime and the screenshot and e-mail functions allow for easy saving or forwarding of the results to the client or employee.

Like this, coach and client (or leader and employee) can work with the scales together hands-on instead of just imagining them. For the client, visualizing the scales makes them more tangible and the activation of additional senses can also support the coaching process.

The Scaling Board App is suited for professional coaches and leaders who work with coaching tools as well as those new to coaching. I am happy to assist you in using the app or effectively using scaling questions.
